With the Glorious Name of Allah, the Most Compassionate [Who has bestowed upon mankind His Guidance {10:57-58, 17:82}], the Most Beneficent [Who showers His special blessings upon those who rehearse it and abide by it {7:204, 6:155}].

111:1 [With the help and triumph achieved with the Guidance of Allah{110:1}] Perished is the power of Abi Lahab [and the substance, authority, priesthood, and religious dogma that he epitomises] and doomed is he to suffer loss, diminution and perdition.

111:2 All his wealth and exploits [for which he offered such a stiff resistance to the Divine Order] will not avail him aught against his demise

111:3 Soon will he be broiled in the blazing fire

111:4 And his wife [with all those whom she represents] who incited, instigated, slandered and smear-campaigned [against the Divine Order]

[Amra'at][Hamalat][Hatab]

111:5 Will have in her lofty neck, a [humiliating] halter {made from (lowly) fibres which grow at the roots of the branches of the palm-tree} [, with which, she will be dragged into the hell-fire]"

The real name of Abi Lahab was ABD AL-UZZA ibn Abdulmuttalib. He was nicknamed  as Abi Lahab because of the radiant look he had on his face and his fiery temper [Lahab means, “blazing fire”]. He succeeded Muhammad's uncle, Abu Talib, as the head of Hashim tribe. Abu Talib protected Muhammad [p.b.u.h] while he was alive, and Abu Lahab revoked that protection.

Abu Lahab was a symbol of exploitative human lordship, manipulative priesthood & dogmatism and the system that is for making easy money out of  endeavours of the others. Quraish, generally, were traders but Abu Lahab did not do any trade. He was the custodian of Ka’ba. The new message propagated by Muhammad [p.b.u.h] that “there is no ILAH except Allah” would put an end to the income he generated and the exploitation he did on the name of the idols kept in the Ka’aba at that time. His profitable custodianship of Ka’aba and the manipulative priesthood were both at stake. He was also a symbol of religious dogma, which has always been the greatest obstacle in the establishment of the Divine System. Moreover, he was one of the tribal lords of Mecca. The message of the Revelation was to snatch the power of control and manipulation from the hands of tribal and religious lords and establish the Divine Order of equality and justice. All these motives were more than enough to make him the most ardent enemy of Allah’s message. His demise referred in this Sura signifies not just his own diminution and perdition but also of all that he stood for. His wife represents all those who incited, instigated, slandered and smear-campaigned against the Message of Allah.
