To unfold something in order to
reveal its intrinsic properties; to till and break open the
surface of the earth and make its productivity power active
[AM]

افلح to thrive, prosper,
become happy; to have luck or success, to be lucky or
successful (فى in,
with) [HW]; to prosper, be successful, attain or acquire
that which one desires or seeks or what is good, or
felicity, or whereby one becomes in a happy and good state;
to become in a state of safety; to continue in a good or
prosperous state and in the enjoyment of ease, comfort or
the blessing of life [LL, LA]; to live or continue to live
(ب by) [LL, K]
Falah
فلاح
working out of latent faculties to the best ability;
[whatever of noble and good hidden in us must come out and
whatever is in the form of potentiality in human mind must
be converted into actuality;] working out our own evolution
and to bring to realisation what our Creator has placed in
us [AM], just like ploughing of land and cultivation results
in the actualisation of the potentialities of a seed;
prosperity; success; the attainment of that which one
desires or seeks [LL, LA, K], or that whereby one becomes in
a happy or good state; safety or security [LL, LA];
continuous or permanence in a good or prosperous state [LL,
LA, K], and in the enjoyment of ease, comfort or the
blessings of life, and the continuous of good [LL, LA];
continuous, permanence, lastingness, or endurance [LL, LQ];
reaping the fruits of labour [AM]. There is no other word in
the Arabic language that is more comprehensive in
signification of what is good in the present life and in the
after-life than Al-falah(الفلاح)
[LL, AM]. Pertains to both this world and the Hereafter [AM]
Falahat
فلاحة agriculture; art,
work or occupation of ploughing, tilling or cultivating land
[LL, LA, K, LQ]. Since the result of ploughing and
cultivation of crops is its multiplication and abundance,
the word falah فلاح
is used to mean success and prosperity or the attainment of
that which one desires or seeks [LQ]
Muflihoon
مفلحون a people
prospering; successful; attaining or acquiring that which
they desire or seek or of what that is good or of what make
them happy or in a good state [LL, LQ]; whose crops thrive
or flourish [LQ]
In the Qur’an, the word Aflaha
افلح has come as an
opposite of the word khaaba
خاب [91:9-10]
In 7:8-9, the word muflihoon
has been used vs. those who khasaroo (i.e. suffer
loss or diminution).
Actions that results in falah,
as given in the Quran, are as follows:
-Taqwa leads to falah
[2:189, 3:130, 3:200, 5:35, 5:100]
-Believing in Al-Ghaib,
establishing Salat, and keeping what Allah has
bestowed , open for the benefit of others; believing in
Allah’s Revelations and the Hereafter [2:5]
-Inviting to al-khair,
enjoining what is Right and forbidding what is wrong [3:104]
-Seeking the means to be in the
good graces of Allah and striving hard in His way [5:35]
-Striving hard with one’s life
and wealth in the way of Allah [9:88]
-Refraining from intoxicants,
gambling and games of chance, sacrificing animals on stones
i.e. altars of idols and idolatrous practices, and divining
of the future by such means as arrows, raffles and omens
[5:90]
-Making the balance of good
deeds heavier than the bad deeds [7:8, 23:102]
-Being exceeding mindful of
(the Commands of) Allah [8:45]
-Having convictions (in Allah
and His Laws and Commands); humbly and whole-heartedly
following Divine Commands (by establishing Salat);
turning away from all that is senseless; setting up of the
Just Economic Order of ZAKAT; being mindful of
chastity and not giving way to desires with any but the
spouses – that is, those whom each other rightfully
possesses; being faithful to the trusts and to the pledges;
guarding the Divine System of Salat [23:1-9]
-Bowing down (to the Laws of
Allah), humbly submitting and conforming to the Commands of
Allah and doing al-khair
[22:77]
-Turning to (the Guidance of)
Allah [24:31]
-Turning to Allah, have
conviction in His Laws and do deeds of righteousness
[28:67]
-Giving to the relative his
God-given Right, and to the needy, and whose business has
stalled, and who has lost his job, and whose hard-earned
income is insufficient to meet the basic needs, and the
homeless son of the street, the needy traveller and the one
who has travelled to you for help [30:38]
-Obeying the Laws, Rules and
Regulations imposed by Allah and His Messenger (, the
Islamic Authority who imposes them) [24:51]
-Developing (Divine Attributes
in) one’s ‘self’ as much as is humanly possible [87:14-15,
91:9]
-Taqwa, listening and obeying
(Allah’s Command), spending on others and saving oneself
from one’s own greediness [64:16, 59:9]
-Seeking Allah’s bounty and
being mindful of (the Commands) of Allah [62:10]
-Truly believing in Allah and
the Last Day and NOT endearing anyone who opposes Allah and
His Messenger, even though they be their fathers or their
sons or their brothers or their tribe [58:22]
-Establishing Salat and
Just economic order of Zakat and believing in the
hereafter [31:5-6]
-Following the Messenger,
honouring him, supporting him and following the Light (i.e.
the Quran) that was revealed to him [7:157]
