Sura 112: Al-Ikhlas

(To see the explanation of key words, take your mouse pointer on the words or numbers in blue.)

With the Glorious Name of Allah, the Most Compassionate [Who has bestowed upon mankind His Guidance {10:57-58, 17:82}], the Most Beneficent [Who showers His special blessings upon those who rehearse it and abide by it {7:204, 6:155}].

Rahmaan & Raheem [1] [2] [3] [4] [5] [6] [7] [8]

112:1 Say, "He is Allah [Whose overall sovereignty or lordship should be accepted; whose laws and directions should be obeyed and followed; to Whom one should look for protection in bewilderment; and from Whose grandeur one should get dazed], the One and Only, Single and Unique in Himself [and in His attributes {12:39, 13:16, 14:48, 38:65, 39:4, 40:16}] [There is absolutely nothing like Him {42:11}]

[Allah][Ahad]

112:2 Allah is the One Who is the Absolute, the Independent, the Self-sufficient, Ever Dependable, the One who is always there [to help]; the Eternal Besought of all, upon Whom all depend but Who depends upon nothing.

[Samad]

112:3 He begets not, nor is He begotten [Neither did He give birth to any one, nor is He Himself a product of the process of procreation. He has no children (2:116, 6:101, 16:57, 19:35, 112:3), no parents (112:3) and not any wife (6:101). He is the One, Unique, Single (112:1). He has brought into existence every living being through the process of creation (6:101), not by procreation from Him]

112:4 There is none who is or can ever be His equal, His like or comparable unto Him."

[Kufuwan]

Note:

All the peoples in the world, except atheists, claim to have belief in God. But the concept of God differs from people to people, and even from person to person. Just "believing in God" is meaningless. What is meaningful and really important is what kind of God one believes in or what one believes about God. As far as the physical aspect of God is concerned, we know nothing about it and we cannot know anything about it [in the life of this world]. God, Himself, has not told anything about His physical aspect. No vision can grasp Him [6:104, 7:143]. There is nothing like Him; so His [physical] nature cannot be explained even with an example [42:11]. The only thing God has told us about Himself, is His attributes. The only true concept of God is the one that is told by none else but God Himself, in the Quran. The only true belief in God is the belief in no other concept of God but what is told by God Himself in the Quran. If one believes in God with THAT concept of God which God Himself has told in the Quran, then this is the true belief in God, otherwise it is not. Sura AL-IKHLAS gives some of the salient aspects of the true concept of God.

Aspects of TAUHEED/Allah's Oneness/Uniqueness:

1. Incidentally, wherever the attribute AL-WAHID has come in Quran for Allah, it has come along with another attribute AL-QAHAAR (12:39, 13:16, 14:48, 38:65, 39:4, 40:16). Allah is the One and Only Who can overpower everything but nothing can overpower Him. He is the Invincible/ Insuperable/ Insurmountable/ Irresistible.

[AL-QAHAAR = the One Who has overwhelming power and can overpower everything but nothing can overpower Him = the One Who is Invincible/Insuperable/Insurmountable/Irresistible]

2. He is the Only One ILAH, Whose overall sovereignty or lordship should be accepted, Whose laws and directions should be obeyed and followed, To Whom someone should look for protection in bewilderment, and From Whose grandeur one should get dazed (2:133, 2:163, 5:73, 9:31, 14:52, 16:22, 16:51, 18:110, 21:108, 22:34, 29:46, 37:4, 38:5, 41:6)

3. He is the Only One Who can issue HUKM/Commands (18:26)

4. He is the only One Who is the Lord/Rabb/The Source of all sources of nourishment (18:38, 18:42, 72:2)

5. He is the Only One Who is worthy of IBADAT/worthy to be served (18:110)

6. He is the Only One Whose disobedience should we fear from (33:39)

7. He is the Only One Who should be called upon or invoked in need and in prayers (72:18, 72:20)

8. He is the Only One Whose refuge should be sought (72:22)

9. He is the Only One Who has the knowledge of the unseen (72:26)

10. He is the Only One Who has no co-equal or comparable (112:4)

The inevitable outcome of the belief in the oneness/TAWHEED of the Creator is the singularity of law and unity of mankind. Mankind was but ONE SINGLE nation and it was meant to remain a single nation. Its final goal is to become one again by their own free will, following the concept of TAWHEED (2:213, 10:19, 11:118, 16:93, 21:92, 23:52, 42:8, 43:33). It goes without saying that the beginning of man was also from ONE SINGLE life cell (4:1, 6:98, 7:189, 39:6).
